The Marketer’s Guide to South by Southwest (“SXSW”) 2019 in Austin, Texas

What started as a hip music festival in the 1980s, the annual South by Southwest (“SXSW”) conference has become the place to be for all things music, cultural and now technology, bringing thousands to the hip tech town of Austin, Texas. For marketers, this event has emerged as a place to get a cutting-edge perspective on how digital innovations continue to define much of our culture today.

Here’s a roundup of five selected events and workshops you can apply to your marketing strategy.

1.Where’s the future going?
The 2019 Emerging Tech Trends Report. This session is led by Amy Webb, a professor at NYU Stern School of Business and founder of the Future Today Institute, will release her 12th annual Tech Trends Report. Amy just published a new book, The Big Nine: How the Tech Titans and their Thinking Machines Could Warp Humanity, which takes a crystal ball look into the future world impacted by Google, Microsoft, IBM, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, and others.

How to Build a Standout Brand in a Crowded World. This session should help you make sense of all the digital tools, put them to use, and find the opportunities to rise above the crowd. Nick Westergaard, a Chief Brand Strategist, contribute to Harvard Business Review and is the author of Get Scrappy: Smarter Digital Marketing for Businesses Big and Small.

3. How to keep innovating?
Digital Transformation, AI and an Innovation Mindset. Sandy Carter, VP Amazon Web Services, one of the “Top 39 Engineers” picked by Business Insider, was also voted #3 influencer of SXSW 2017. She’ll be joined by and Kathy Klotz-Guest, author, Founder of Keeping it Human, who believes in the power of improvisational jargon-free marketing through a unique touch of humor.
